A Full Week

This was a rather exciting week for my artwork, as it was the first time I have actually done it as I had originally planed for it to work. I wanted it to be something I work on throughout the week... not something I toss together in an hour on Sunday night.
here is the picture, from a National Geographic.
But, I kind of cheated. This is actually a project for my Art 1 class.
My teacher called them "Persian Miniatures" and stressed the importance of the boarders, but I don't think that it is small enough to be called "miniature."

Here is another part of the interesting story. I went to turn it into her when I was done. I will now replay the scene. (the words in italics are my thoughts.)

She said, "Oh, that is really beautiful," I know.
"you should keep it for your portfolio."
I was planning on it. "But shouldn't I still turn it in for you to grade?"
"You take it home, and I'll just give you points for it. That's how we should do it from now on. Just show me when you are done, I'll give you points, and you can take it home."
quickening heart pace. Slight panic, "What about the things that I've already turned in?"
"Oh. I think I have kept most of them," WHAT? "which ones did you want back?"
ALL OF THEM!! THAT IS THE WHOLE REASON I TOOK THIS STUPID CLASS! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO THROW AWAY OR KEEP MY ARTWORK INDEFINITELY... "Um, the one that is framed in the office," crap, was she planning on leaving that in the office? Heck no... "The monkey one... most of them, actually."
"Ok... I'll..." I don't actually hear the rest of what she said, because I am FREAKING OUT.

I get every essay I have ever written back in both my English and History classes. I get every sort of insignificant worksheet I have ever filled out in Spanish back form Ms. Barnish. Why would an art teacher  not give things back? If the teacher wants to keep something for an example for the project then they ask the student. They don't throw it away, and they don't keep it. It is up to the student. Always.

I guess now I know why she has so many beautiful examples of her projects...

To move on and attempt to end this post...better.... I give you this picture.
In the past, my Seminary teacher took away the paper that I doodled on to stop me from doodling in class. So I stopped. But this "project" was something she couldn't justify taking away... you can't discourage drawing when the kid is drawing the prophet...

This kind of made me realize that people are art-haters. This stinks.
